Inside the Private Massage Room
Cool down at the table with your hair wet, then into a private room with its own bathtub. You never cross the floor wet again. Open 24h; therapists 13:00-06:00.
You come out of the water, sit down with your hair still dripping, and for the first few minutes nobody talks. That is not the mood of the place. Your body is still working: heat leaving your shoulders in layers, the sweat on the back of your neck just dried, your breathing longer than usual.
You are sitting in the rest area, wooden tables set well apart. Between the water and the massage there is a stretch of time with nothing in it, and this is where you spend it. The part of the night you came for is in the private massage room ahead of you.
Book through this site and a private car collects you at your door and brings you back to it. Fourth floor of the New Orient Landmark Hotel. The booking reaches them before you do, so there is nothing to announce. The treatment and the two complimentary add-ons are chosen on the day, at the venue, and the price page is separate. Our staff confirm the rate when you book, and asking costs nothing.
When you have sat long enough you get up. Someone comes over, walks you across, and stops at a door. Every massage happens behind a door that closes. It shuts behind you, and besides the bed there is a bathtub in the room.
The therapist walks in, and that is when the session starts. Nothing before it counts: not the soak, not the minutes at the wooden table.
You lie face down, your face in the pillow, and let your weight go. It begins at the neck and shoulders. The oil is never poured straight onto you. It is worked warm between the hands first, so what reaches your back is already the temperature of skin and there is no cold moment at all. You can smell it faintly as it spreads. Your back heats up from underneath, and the piece of your shoulder that has been hard since morning is only pushed warm on the first pass or two before anything goes deeper. When it finally lets go, you hear yourself breathe out longer than you meant to. The pressure travels down the back to the waist, heavier each time, until the small of your back is warm and has stopped holding you up.
Then the glutes. The first time the weight arrives there, your body braces for about half a second. There is nothing to be nervous about and nothing to hold in. The therapists here work this stretch every night and they know what they are doing. Put your face back in the pillow, close your eyes, and let it sink. The pressure goes in layer by layer, the tight part takes several passes before it gives, and once it does the lower back softens with it. If you sit at a desk all day, this is the block that has been carrying the day for you, and it is the part not to skip.
The thighs are taken in long strokes, up, held at the top, released back down. The first two passes only warm the surface. The next one gets in, and the muscle that was solid on the way up comes back softer each time. The calves go the other way, downward: starting behind the knee, followed to the ankle, landing on the heel. There is an ache in it, and your feet are lighter once it has passed. The soles come last, worked open one spot at a time, then the toes one by one, including the ones you would never think to touch yourself.
You turn over. The arms are taken from the shoulder down to the wrist, the hand opened out, the fingers one at a time, and it is only when they let go that you notice they had been working all day. The underarms are easy to skip and they are not skipped. The stomach comes last, circled slowly in time with your breathing, sinking as you breathe out, giving way as you breathe in.
By the end you are loose. Your arms and legs are still there, you just have no interest in giving them instructions. Your back is warm, the block in your shoulder has been carried off, and your waist has stopped bracing. You stay where you are, with nothing to think about.
Nor do you clear anything away. A hot towel takes the oil off section by section while you are still lying there, and those few seconds of heat landing on you are the best part of it. You never get up and you never tidy anything. If you want to rinse properly, the bathtub is in this room, three steps away: the water is run, you get in, the smell of the oil goes, and the heat the session left in you stays. You dry off, dress, and open the door already clean. You will not walk another stretch of this venue wet tonight.
Someone meets you outside and walks you back to the same wooden table. The two complimentary add-ons are not part of the session and do not happen in the room: you sit down, and a different masseur does them there. Back scrub, head, foot reflexology, ear cleaning, the two you picked on the way in. You sat here with your hair wet. This time you sit down dry.
The three things people ask before they go in
”Is the massage room really private?”
Yes. Every session happens in a room with a door that closes, and once it does, the session is you and the therapist. There are photographs of the rooms and the rest of the venue in the gallery.
”What time do I need to arrive for a massage the same day?”
The venue is open 24 hours. Therapists are on shift from 13:00 until 06:00 the next morning. Those are two separate facts: arrive inside the shift and the massage happens that day. If you would rather stay until it gets light, there is a page on staying overnight.
”Can I skip the massage and just soak and sit?”
Yes. The bathing floor and the tables are both yours, and nobody moves you along. Room by room, the venue is set out on the facilities page.
You do not have to work it all out at once. Send one WhatsApp message with a date, how many of you there are, and roughly what time you will arrive. The car will be at your door.
Those minutes at the table with your hair wet go by, and then you stand up and walk to the door ahead of you.
